If you are impatient and want to begin investing, you can get started straight away without having any knowledge about the stock market. You can begin by being a conservative investor with a low risk tolerance. This will give you an opportunity to make your money grow whilst you find out more about investing.

You can begin with an interest bearing savings account. You might already have one. If you don’t have one, you should. You can open a savings account at the same bank that you do your checking at – or at any other bank. A savings account should pay you 2 – 4% on the money that you have in the account.

This might not be a lot of money – unless you have a million dollars in that account – but it is a first step towards the idea of money making money.

Then, you can start investing in money market funds. This can often be carried out through your bank. These funds will have higher interest payouts than typical savings accounts, but they will work very much in the same way. These will be short term investments, so your money won’t be tied down for a long period of time – but once again, it will be money making money.

Other sound investments with no risk are also Certificates of Deposit. The interest rates on CD’s will be typically much higher than those of savings accounts or Money Market Funds.

You can choose the length of your investment, and interest will be paid regularly until the CD reaches maturity. CD’s can be bought at your bank, and your bank will insure them against loss. When the CD reaches its full maturity, you will receive your original investment, plus the interest that the CD has earned.

If you are just beginning, one or all of these three types of investments will be the best starting point. Once again, this will allow your money to start making money for you while you find out more about investing in other areas.
